Monasterevin settled Well in the opening minutes pressing from the beginning. On 7 minutes Kyle Websdale almost broke the deadlock only to see the keeper make a fine save , how ever Adrian Morell had continued his run to follow through to make it 1-0, however 2 minutes later St Francis were back in it with a goal of their own . Midfield was a constant battle for the next 20 minutes with Jack Fitzpatrick, Dylan Moran , Tadgh O’Farrell and Kyle Websdale doing tireless work . MAFC’s defensive line of Michael Kirwan with Dylan O’Neill and Daryll Byrne breaking up any St Francis attack .
The first half ended with Tadgh and Hugh O’Loughlin going close on several occasions.
The second half saw fresh legs introduced throughout the half .
There was plenty of chances in the second half including Kyle Hitting the cross bar . St Francis made it 2-1 against the run of play . Mafc pressed hard and in the last minute a Tadgh O’Farrell cross was met by Cormac Kelly to draw the game and head to extra time .
Mafc pushed hard at the start of extra time with the keeper making several saves . Mafc thought they had the lead through Tadgh O’Farrell but he was ruled offside . Minutes later St Francis scored to make it 3-2 . Second half of extra time saw Mafc play some quality football getting into scoring positions on numerous occasions but every time St Francis keeper was there to make some fine saves . St Francis added another close to full time .
Mafc can be very proud of their performance, today just didn’t go their way . Well done to everyone today , they never gave up and pressed to the very end .
