Monasterevin AFC Secures Dominant 3-0 Victory Over Athy Town

Monasterevin AFC continued their exceptional start to the U18 Premier Division season with a decisive 3-0 away victory against Athy Town AFC White, making it three wins from three games and securing their third consecutive league clean sheet.

First Half Control

Monasterevin started strongly, dominating possession and working hard to break down a determined Athy White defensive line.

The midfield unit, marshalled effectively by Captain Adam Martin and key players like Devon Abbey, exerted relentless control over the tempo of the game.

The opening goal came after a period of beautiful, patient passing. The ball was worked wide to Ben Doyle, who delivered a precise cross back into the box, finding Scott Lavin. Lavin made no mistake from close range (6 yards), putting Monasterevin 1-0 up.

Despite the lead, Athy's goalkeeper was forced into action, pulling off a couple of excellent saves.

Most notably, Ben Doyle unleashed a fierce 25-yard strike aimed for the top corner, only to be denied by a spectacular fingertip save.

Thanks to their midfield control and a consistently alert back line—featuring players like Conor Mcbrien and Jack Johnston—Monasterevin took a deserved 1-0 lead into the break.

Second Half Breakthrough

Monasterevin quickly settled into the second half, maintaining their pressure and finding a second goal soon after the restart. In the 48th minute, Scott Lavin doubled his tally with a moment of individual brilliance.

He won the ball on the left flank before striking a precise shot that looped into the top corner, leaving the Athy keeper with no chance.

The visitors extended their lead to 3-0 on the hour mark. A sharp pass from midfield by Adam Martin found Devon Abbey advancing into the box, who was then fouled, earning Monasterevin a penalty. Captain Adam Martin stepped up confidently to convert the spot-kick, sealing the result.

Athy introduced several substitutes and attempted to increase the tempo in the final minutes, but the Monasterevin back line, which included Micheal Morrissey in goal and Aaron O’Loughlin, remained wide awake to every threat, ensuring they kept their clean sheet intact.

Brody Dunne also impressed after coming on, adding smooth passing and further attempts to open up the Athy defence.

Man of the Match

While the report noted that "all Monasterevin players were on form," the Man of the Match award deservedly went to Ben Doyle.

His tireless effort on the wing, playmaking skills (assisting the opener), and powerful shots ensured he was the most influential attacking player on the pitch throughout the contest.

Well done to the team and coaches.
